A car crashed into an ANZ bank in the Waikato town of Matamata on Friday - day two of New Zealand's COVID-19 lockdown.

There were no reports of injuries and nothing was stolen, said a police spokeswoman.

She told Newshub a report was received about the vehicle crashing into the building in Arawa St about 5:50pm on Friday.

The offender left the scene, she said, but was located a short time later and taken into custody.
