A motorist on Auckland's North Shore had a less-than-ideal start to the day on Wednesday when their car became stuck in the water.
A photo of the water-logged vehicle was shared to Twitter by Sonja Yelich, Lorde's mum.
"Well I never," she wrote.
Police say they were called about the incident - which happened on Cheltenham Beach - just after 6:30am.
"Thankfully nobody was injured or trapped as a result," a spokesperson said.
Twitter users were quick to make jokes about the situation.
"I think the engine's flooded," wrote one person.
"Is this a shot from the music video of Lorde's new single?" wrote someone else. "Wow can't wait."
"I don't think they can get to Rangitoto that way," chimed in someone else.
Police said the owner was organising for the car to be towed.
