Coronavirus: Hamilton rest home patient tests positive

A Hamilton resident is in isolation at a rest home hospital care unit after testing positive for COVID-19.

Atawhai Assisi Home and Hospital chief executive Louis Fick confirmed the diagnosis to Newshub on Monday afternoon.

All 27 staff are now also reportedly in isolation.

The positive test came back on Sunday. His daughter, over from Australia, had visited him around March 10, Stuff reported

Only the hospital section of the rest home is reportedly affected.

New Zealand's mandatory self-isolation requirements for overseas travellers was only implemented on March 14, four days after the visit. Until then, the only restrictions were on hard-hit regions like parts of Italy, Iran and China.

Director-General of Health Ashley Bloomfield revealed on Monday afternoon there were now 102 confirmed cases in New Zealand, including two they're treating as community transmission.
