A man in custody at the Rotorua Police station who sparked fears he had coronavirus and led to the district court being decontaminated has tested negative for COVID-19.

The man had told police on Thursday morning he was feeling unwell and had recently returned from Hong Kong.

He was one of two people arrested for making threats on Wednesday at the Rotorua District Court.

All sites connected to the man, including the courthouse, were decontaminated and staff who had been in close contact with the man had self-isolated as a precaution.

But Police have now announced the man's test for coronavirus has come back negative.

The Rotorua Police Station and staff who had been in isolation will be returning to business as usual.
