Coronavirus testing gazebo stolen from east Auckland health clinic

Police are investigating after a coronavirus testing gazebo was stolen in east Auckland on Tuesday morning.

The gazebo was taken shortly after 8am from the East Health Services car park in Botany, police told Newshub.

A replacement tent has now been placed on the site of the old gazebo, which had been bolted to the ground.

Testing will continue as normal on Tuesday.

A staff member at the health clinic told Newshub the theft was "terrible".

Testing is a crucial component of the fight against COVID-19. Two weeks ago, the Government drastically increased the number of tests being performed in an effort to get ahead of the spread of the disease.

The average daily test number in New Zealand is now 1728.

So far, New Zealand has 589 cases of coronavirus, up 76 on the previous 24 hours. One death has been confirmed, while 63 people have recovered from the infection.
