Earthquake rattles north Canterbury

A magnitude 5.1 quake has rattled parts of the South Island.

The quake, centred 10km north-west of Culverden, struck at 4.28am.

It was at a depth of 10km, Geonet reported.

Almost 700 people registered with Geonet as having felt the quake.

There are no reports of any major damage.
