As it happened: Ministry of Health gives latest update as COVID-19 declared a pandemic

The latest information regarding New Zealand's outbreak of COVID-19 will be provided during a media stand-up at Auckland Hospital on Thursday.

Director-General of Health Dr Ashley Bloomfield and Waitematā DHB Chief Executive Dr Dale Bramley are expected to speak at 3pm.

Both Dr Bloomfield and Dr Bramley will address the World Health Organisation's earlier announcement declaring COVID-19 as a pandemic.

Dr Bloomfield says the announcement formalises the current approach: "All our planning has been on the basis that COVID-19 was the early stages of a pandemic. Our planning is well advanced and we continue with the approach already taken."

Dr Bramley will provide an update on the planning and preparation for COVID-19.

There have been five confirmed cases of COVID-19 in New Zealand.
