A mother and her three-day-old son who died suddenly in Auckland on Monday have been named.

Police responded to the deaths of Emerald Waiari Tai, 27, and her son Tanatui Samuels in Kelston at around 9:30am on March 16.

Detective Inspector John Sutton says police enquiries indicate there were no suspicious circumstances in the deaths.

Post mortem examinations have been carried out and the deaths will be referred to the Coroner.

Sutton called the event a "tragedy". The Police said they send their sympathies to the family.
