New Zealand Post admits two Dunedin mailboxes went unemptied for whole of February

New Zealand Post is apologising after it failed to clear two central Dunedin mailboxes for an entire month.

Two postboxes on George St in the city's central business district were not cleared for all of February, a NZ Post spokesperson confirmed.

They have now been cleared and 1700 items are in the process of being delivered, the spokesperson told Newshub.

"NZ Post is very sorry to say that two posting boxes, at 266 George St, and 251 George St, were not cleared properly for the month of February.

"We are investigating why this happened, and to make sure this does not happen again, but we do know this is an isolated incident."

Facebook users, however, have described the blunder as "incompetent" and "appalling".

The NZ Post spokesperson said, "We know how much Kiwis value having this service, and in the overwhelming majority of cases we deliver mail safely and within the targeted time frames".
