Newshub live special: Ministry of Health, Jacinda Ardern's national coronavirus update

Newshub is running a special live broadcast covering the major government announcements on Wednesday as New Zealand prepares for an urgent nationwide lockdown.

At 1pm, there will be an all-of-government standup, including an update from the Ministry of Health on the number of cases.

The speakers and their topics will be:

  • Sarah Stuart-Black, director of CDEM - update on COVID-19 national response
  • Dr Ashley Bloomfield, Director-General of Health - health update
  • Peter Elms, Immigration NZ national manager - border issues update
  • Paul Stocks, deputy chief executive MBIE - essential services update

At 3pm, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern will speak about New Zealand's state of emergency.

At 11:59pm tonight, the country will be in lockdown for at least four weeks in an attempt to minimise the spread of the virus, which has infected over 150 people in New Zealand.

The lockdown means people must remain indoors, non-essential businesses will close, schools are shut, and travel is severely limited.
