'Wake up dad': Outrage over group mocking homeless man on TikTok

A Christchurch man has sparked outrage online after posting a video showing a homeless person being woken up and mocked.

The video, originally posted to TikTok, was captioned "wake up dad".

It shows a homeless man sleeping on the bench in a bus shelter when a group approaches him and wakes him up. The hit song 'My Heart Will Go On' from Titanic plays over the top.

The man angrily tells them to leave and attempts to stop them from filming him.

"Oh my god. Arrgh!" one says in mock terror, as they retreat.

The account has been deleted from TikTok, but not before the clip was reshared to Facebook where it has caused outrage amongst viewers.

Several people have shared the name of the man and his employer and threatened him with violence.

"Who knows this man sleeping while minding his business? How humiliating for him to be exposed for a quick TikTok video. If anyone comes across this man please give him a big hug," one viewer wrote. "[Name deleted] you're a weak human being!!"

"Disgusting behaviour to humiliate someone by recorded them without consent," another said.
