Coronavirus: Kiwi makes cool golf course art walking on Strava

A Kiwi man has been getting inventive with his exercise during the lockdown, using his walks to map out art at his local golf course.

The maps have been made at the Waitemata Golf Club using the Strava app, which uses GPS data to track your route.

Devonport man Sam G, who made the maps, has clocked up 22.5km on the app this month - and created some sweet art in the process.

"Corona Kiwi is here to protect you!" he says in a post to his local Facebook community group.

"If you've seen me walking around the golf course staring at my phone with my daughter on my back, I've been drawing some pictures with Strava.

"It's great to have the golf course open for safe, physically-distant, ball-free walking!"

The art includes the "biggest bear in Devonport" - a giant bear face which took 2.8km to create. Other images include a kiwi, a toilet paper roll, and the coronavirus itself.

The maps have been met with applause on social media.

"That's brilliant, a new take on sketching. The kiwi would have been tricky as it goes across Lake Road. Very clever," one person commented.

"I've heard golfers call it the most boring course in the country, that's a great idea especially with no flying balls to hit cha!" another said.
