The human remains found in the central North Island last week are linked to an address in Massey, west Auckland, police say.

Police made the grisly discovery after carrying out a search at Rangipo Intake Rd, just off Desert Rd in southern Bay of Plenty, last Tuesday.

The deceased is thought to be a Chinese man aged in his early 30s and, upon carrying out a post-mortem, the death was declared suspicious.

Police said in an update on Wednesday a search warrant was executed at an address on McWhirters Farm Ln, Massey, on Tuesday.

"A scene examination is underway and continues at the address," said Detective Inspector John Sutton, adding the property has been cordoned off and a scene guard is in place.

Det Insp Sutton said the address being examined was recently sold to a family who are not under investigation.

The deceased has yet to be formally identified, he said.
