Elderly woman attacked, robbed in Palmerston North

An elderly woman has been attacked and robbed in Palmerston North by two youths, leaving her hospitalised with moderate injuries.

The 82-year-old was walking toward the town's central business district on Carroll Street just after midday on Saturday when she was approached by two youths with a bicycle.

The pair - both wearing hooded sweatshirts, one black and the other red - grabbed her handbag, causing her to fall.

The woman suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Palmerston North Hospital.

Police are appealing for information to help identify the youths.

"Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or seen the youths is urged to call police on 105, quoting job number P042384113," a spokesperson says.

"Information can also be provided anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
