A kitten is gaining a following on the New Zealand Police's Facebook page after he was adopted by a constable just over a month ago.

Tiger found a new home with dog handler Constable Hannah Templeman after she came across him while out on the job. The kitten's owners weren't in a position to care for him, so they surrendered him to the handler.

The New Zealand Police first posted about Tiger on its Facebook page on April 2, saying he'd been rescued and was now very happy living in his new home on the farm with police dog Penn.

But many commenters were desperate to see the kitten's new home, so they asked if the police could share an image of Tiger with his new family. Sure enough, later that day a photo was uploaded of the kitten with his new family Penn and Templeman.

Just over two weeks later, another photo of Tiger was posted to the police's Facebook page. This time he wasn't with police dog Penn, but instead he was photographed with a soft toy German shepherd the same size as him who was wearing a police dog cape.

That post gained over 12,000 likes, and one person calls the photo "the cutest thing I think I have seen in a long time".

On Sunday evening, the police posted Tiger's latest update where he's sitting in the pants pocket of Templeman, where it appears he's trying to climb his way out and up her leg.

Commenters on the post were delighted to see an update on Tiger again.

"Gorgeous, what a cutie and a lucky kitty landing on his paws in police dog Penn's home," one person says.

"What a real little darling, so well-loved, thank you so much for the update," another wrote.

"That's a real cuteness overload and a wonderful update. No doubt Tiger and Penn are already best buddies," a third says.

With Tiger sitting perfectly in Templeman's pocket, the police said "he's 'fitting in' pretty well" in his new home.
