Man charged with accessory after the fact to murder after body found in shallow grave near Tongariro

Police have charged a man with accessory after the fact to murder after a body was found in a shallow grave near Tongariro in March.

The 29-year-old was arrested by Waitemata Police on Monday and he appeared in the Waitakere District Court on Tuesday.

Formal identification of the deceased remains ongoing, however Police believe the murder victim is Bao Chang Wang, also known as Ricky Wang, whose whereabouts had been unaccounted for since 2017.

Court documents say the accused allegedly drove at least one other person to the burial site off Rangipo Intake Rd, for the purpose of disposing a body, between August 19 and 23 in 2017.

He's been granted name suppression and entered no plea to reappear in court next month.

Detective Inspector John Sutton says the arrest is a result of the hard work and dedication by the investigation team over an extended period of time.

"The homicide investigation is ongoing and Police enquiries are continuing. Further arrests are expected to be made over the course of our investigation."
