Tania Hadley's alleged killer named as Damien Chandler

The man accused of murdering Auckland woman Tania Hadley can now be named as Damien Chandler.

Hadley's body was found on Friday morning at a property on Mt Roskill's May Rd. She had suffered stab and burn wounds.

The 29-year-old man accused of killing her previously had interim name suppression, but that lapsed on Wednesday. He has been remanded in custody without plea until May 27.

Hadley's family were in court for Chandler's appearance on Wednesday.

Her son Deon Johnson-Hadley told Newshub this week that the family is devastated.

"Going forward it's going to be very tough for her family and her friends," he told Newshub. "The thing is just taking every day as it comes. It's going to be a long recovery for us."

Johnson-Hadley said the family is now raising money to give his mother the send-off she deserves. In two days, a little over $3000 has been raised.

"She deserves for her send-off just a lot of gratitude and a lot of love and the respect that she should get for what she has done and achieved in her lifetime, and what she's done for everybody."

He described her as "loving" and "hardworking".

"She was always supportive of anybody, no matter who you were. She always put everybody else first before herself and she would do anything for anybody."
