Coronavirus: Jacinda Ardern provides latest COVID-19 update following New Zealand's new case confirmations

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has held a media briefing following the confirmation of two new COVID-19 cases in New Zealand.

The conference, which began at 1:30pm on Wednesday, provided the latest updates on the country's COVID-19 response.

No new infections have been recorded as of Wednesday after two related women were confirmed as New Zealand's latest COVID-19 cases on Tuesday.

The women arrived in Auckland from the UK, via Doha and Brisbane, on June 7 and were housed at the Novotel hotel, a managed isolation facility in Ellerslie.

On June 13, the women travelled to Wellington after being granted an isolation exemption on compassionate grounds to attend a funeral. They were tested on Monday and returned positive results on Tuesday morning.

So far just one close contact - the relative they stayed with in Wellington - has been identified, tested and required to self-isolate.
