There will be an increased police presence in the areas surrounding De La Salle and Tamaki College in Auckland following a violent brawl that resulted in the hospitalisation of two students.

On Friday afternoon, around 30 male youths incited a violent fight as De La Salle College students left the school premises on Gray Avenue, Mangere East, leading to the stabbing of one 16-year-old boy. Another student received treatment for a concussion.

In a statement released on Tuesday, area commander for Counties Manukau West Police, Inspector Matt Srhoj, revealed that police enquiries into the brawl have indicated some involvement from students at both De La Salle and Tamaki College.

"We are urging those students against getting involved in any further disorderly behaviour," Insp Srhoj said. "There is zero tolerance from police for any violent or disorderly behaviour."

He acknowledged public speculation surrounding Tamaki College after the school, located in the east Auckland suburb of Glen Innes, was placed into lockdown on Monday. However, he clarified that police have "not directed any such action".

Insp Srhoj confirmed there will be an increased police presence in the areas surrounding the schools to prevent any further disorder.

The 16-year-old is "recovering well" from the moderate injuries sustained in the brawl and continues to receive treatment at Middlemore Hospital.

On Monday, police appealed for witnesses to share their footage of the brawl, which took place outside the gates of De La Salle. Officers have received some information since the plea for public assistance was issued.

A specific website has been established for bystanders to upload their footage.
