One person has been hospitalised as emergency services battle a shed fire in Oxford, Canterbury.

Emergency services received a call about a fire and loud explosion just before 4pm on Wednesday.

Oxford Volunteer Fire Brigade sent three crews to a rural property on Woodside Road in Coopers Creek, Oxford and another two came from Cust Volunteer Fire Brigade. All five are still at the scene. A helicopter, one ambulance and one rapid response unit are also there.

A Fire and Emergency spokesperson says the blaze is coming from a shed which is about 100 metres long.

The fire is contained to the shed and hasn't spread any further to properties or houses.

One person is being treated for burns and smoke inhalation and will be flown to Christchurch Hospital.

The spokesperson says the cause of the fire is yet to be determined, but at this stage it is not suspicious.
