Jacinda Ardern danced with joy after hearing New Zealand had no active COVID-19 cases

Jacinda Ardern says she "did a little dance" after finding out New Zealand had no active COVID-19 cases.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday to announce the move down to alert level 1, the Prime Minister was asked how she celebrated after hearing the final coronavirus patient was symptom-free.

She smiled and responded "I did a little dance" and then laughed to herself.

"I showed [my daughter] Neve, she was caught a little by surprise but she joined in, having absolutely no idea why I was dancing around the lounge but enjoying it nonetheless".

Director-General of Health Ashley Bloomfield then joined in, saying: "Well I'm not quite as good a dancer as the Prime Minister, but I did allow myself a broad smile."

Ardern appeared relaxed after leading the country through the wave of coronavirus and successfully stamping it out for now.

New Zealand will now move down to alert level 1 at midnight on Monday, with social distancing no longer required and no more limits on gatherings.

Ardern's leadership throughout the pandemic has been praised by overseas counterparts, with various international media outlets featuring her decisions.
