Orca chase stingray in Marsden Cove Marina, Northland

A pod of orca entertained bystanders in Marsden Cove Marina over the weekend.

The four killer whales were hunting a stingray in the Northland marina.

One News reports, an Orca Research Trust member was at the scene and knew the history of the pack.

In the video the Orca Research Trust woman can be heard pointing out which is which.

"The one with the top of her fin missing, her name is Pickle she was born in September 2010."

"The one with the big wonky fin that's her older brother Funky Monkey and then the little one is called Pumpkin and their mum is in here too."

The orca were trying to get the ray hiding underneath a pontoon.

In the end Pickle catches the stingray and swims away with it.

Rob van Gelder filmed the showdown from the pontoon and posted it to Facebook.

The video has had over 1000 shares, more than 200 comments and almost 600 reactions since being posted on Sunday evening.

Van Gelder also posted a second video showing the orca playing in the marina.

The Orca Research Trust asks for people to report sightings on 0800 733 6722 "as soon as possible," saying they rely on sightings from the public to find orca.
