The window of a house on a Christchurch street was smashed overnight, covering a baby's bed in glass.

It's unclear if the child was in the bed at the time but she was not injured. The occupants of the house in the suburb of Upper Riccarton have alerted the police.

The mother said in the late hours of Wednesday, a full can of a drink was thrown through the window of her bedroom.

"My baby's bed is covered in glass as she sleeps in our room," she said on Facebook.

"She could have been cut to absolute ribbons. Scumbags."

Police said a report about the window smashing was received about 11:10pm on Wednesday.

"There were no reports of any injuries," said a police spokeswoman. "Police are making enquiries."
