One new case of COVID-19 has been detected in one of New Zealand's managed isolation facilities.

It follows news a fourth person has escaped from a managed isolation facility.

"This case brings our total number of confirmed cases to 1193, which is the number we report to the World Health Organization," a Ministry of Health spokeswoman said.

All of New Zealand's active 24 cases are in managed isolation facilities. No-one is in hospital.

There were 2057 tests carried out on Friday, bringing the total to 426,776.

The Ministry of Health says it's been 71 days since New Zealand's last known case a community transmission.

New Zealand's death toll remains at 22. 559,000 have died worldwide and more than 12.4 million have been infected.
