The former partner of Kelly Donner, the father murdered by Haami Hanara, has just five words for the teenage killer: "please just hand yourself in".
Hanara was serving a life sentence for murdering Donner in the Hawke's Bay in 2018.
Jocelyn Peachy and Donner had a daughter together who has since passed away. Peachy wants answers about how they managed to climb out a window and leave the youth justice facility without being noticed.
Peachy says she wasn't told by police that Hanara had escaped and doesn't believe Donner's family have been told either.
"I want to know how Haami escaped even when it was a fully-staffed facility," she tells Newshub.
This is the third escape from the Korowai Manaaki facility in south Auckland.
Oranga Tamariki's deputy chief executive of youth justice service, Allan Boreham, told Newshub the organisation was working very closely with police to find out what happened.
Boreham said the windows were reinforced and recently had work done on them after they were recognised as an area of concern.
