Hawke's Bay rattled by 4.3 earthquake

A magnitude 4.3 earthquake has struck in Hawke's Bay.

The quake hit at a depth of 16km on Thursday afternoon and struck within 5km of Porangahau.

Geonet reports it was felt by almost 300 people but most said the shaking was light or weak.

The quake was felt as far as Wellington with eight people reporting light shaking.
