Police have made an arrest after a 72-year-old was killed in a south Auckland hit-and-run in June.

Jalil Mousses died after being struck by a high-speed vehicle when he was crossing Russell Rd in Manurewa on June 26.

Counties Manukau Police have charged a 27-year-old man with failing to stop to ascertain injury and driving while disqualified.

Police are not ruling out further charges being laid.

On Friday police released CCTV footage of the vehicle and urged the public to hand over any known details to provide the Mousses' family with closure.

Acting Detective Inspector Warrick Adkin thanked those who came forward with information.

"We hope the arrest may be able to provide some closure for Mr Mousses' family at this time," he says.

The man is due to appear in court on July 14.
