New information has been uncovered relating to the death of farmer Scott Guy, a private investigator says.

Scott Guy was shot dead on his Feilding family farm in 2010, leading to a high-profile police investigation and court trial. His brother-in-law, Ewen Macdonald, was charged with his murder, but was found not guilty in 2010.

A Givealittle page, set up earlier in July, explains that following the trial, Scott's widow, Kylee, hired private investigators, but funds ran out in 2015. The new fundraising page was created by a friend to allow the widow to continue with the investigators. It's so far raised $19,000.

According to Stuff, Phil Jones, who is heading a team of investigators, says new information has been received. No more detail was provided and the information would be assessed.

"We've had some good phone calls. It's been quite interesting," Jones told Stuff.

"It's all potentially relevant to the investigation, and new information too. We're getting stuff that we've never heard before."

There are about 150 lines of inquiry to follow, but Jones told Stuff that the team was waiting to see how much money was raised.

In an update on Tuesday, Kathie Rifle, who set up the fundraiser, thanked Kiwis for the support.

"$15,000 in 13 days! What an amazing effort! Thank you all so much. We still have a long way to go however to reach our proposed goal."

The goal for the Givealittle is $50,000 and it closes in October.
