The two people who died in a house fire in Christchurch overnight are children, Newshub understands.
A neighbour said it was communicated to him that the fire had tragically taken the children's lives.
Three fire crews were called to Vivian St in Burwood at 10:45pm on Tuesday night.
Fire and Emergency spokesperson Jill Higginson says the fire was well involved on arrival.
She says it was immediately apparent there were fatalities, and police were called.
Crews are still on scene.
Fire investigators returned to the scene on Wednesday morning, and will be working to ascertain just how the blaze broke out.
