Three seriously injured after Auckland police pursuit

Three people are seriously injured after a short police pursuit in Auckland ended in a vehicle crashing.

Police say that at around 2:30am on Tuesday morning, officers spotted a vehicle speeding on Titirangi Rd and attempted to stop the vehicle. However, it fled. 

"A short pursuit was initiated which lasted a matter of seconds before the vehicle has crashed into a parked car on Atkinson Rd."

Three occupants - aged 18, 19 and 25 - have serious injuries and are in Auckland Hospital, according to police. A fourth occupant, aged 17, has minor injuries and is in North Shore Hospital. 

"A police investigation is underway and the matter has been referred to the Independent Police Conduct Authority.The Serious Crash Unit is at the scene and will remain there for some time. The road is currently closed but is expected to be re-opened shortly."

Fire and Emergency sent two units to the crash, with the four people initially trapped in the wreckage.
