The Bay of Plenty District Health Board has revealed a list of Rotorua tourist attractions and eateries that a family with COVID-19 visited at the weekend.

An Auckland family of four tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday after they'd visited Rotorua. The infections were New Zealand's first cases of community transmission in over 100 days and it remains unclear where they caught the coronavirus, given they had no history of overseas travel.

A DHB spokeswoman told Newshub that only one family member was symptomatic at the time they visited Rotorua.

There's a small possibility people from Rotorua may have been exposed, the Bay of Plenty's Toi Te Ora Public Health department said in a statement.

Eight public places have been identified as facilities where the cases visited:

  • Wai Ora Lakeside Hotel - Saturday, 3:30pm to Tuesday 9am
  • Herbs & Spices Thai Restaurant - Saturday, 8 to 9pm
  • Fat Dog Cafe - Sunday, 1:30 to 2:30pm
  • Pak'n Save Rotorua - Sunday, 2:30 to 3pm
  • Rotorua Heritage Farm 3D Art Gallery - Monday, 3 to 4:30pm
  • Skyline Rotorua - Sunday, 4 to 5:50pm
  • BurgerFuel Redwood Centre - Monday, 7 to 7:30pm
  • Don Kebab - Monday, 7 to 7:30pm

People who were at any of these facilities on these days and times are considered casual contacts and should self-isolate.

"You can come out of self-isolation when you have a negative test but you should remain vigilant for any symptoms," said Toi Te Ora Public Health Medical Officer of Health Dr Neil de Wet.

"If at any later stage you have symptoms that may be COVID-19 you must immediately self-isolate and get tested."
