Coronavirus: Two Auckland Countdown stores shut up shop after customers found to have COVID-19

Two people now found to have COVID-19 visited two separate Countdown stores in Auckland, and both supermarkets have had to shut up shop.

The customers shopped at both the Quay St and St Lukes Westfield mall sites in the past week.

Countdown health and safety manager Kiri Hannifin says the visits were on separate occasions by two different people and it's understood they're not linked in any way.

Hannifin says both stores have been immediately closed for deep cleaning - a choice made by Countdown.

She says health services are deeming the visits low risks and others who were in the store at the time are considered casual contacts.

"We continue to have rigorous cleaning and hygiene practices in place in all of our stores."

Hannifin reiterated the importance of customers using the COVID Tracer app when entering any of its stores.
