COVID-19: Aucklanders spending another quiet weekend in lockdown

Aucklanders are spending another weekend in alert level 3 lockdown - and they aren't wanting to take risks.

The Waiheke ferry terminal would normally be bustling on a sunny Saturday morning, but today it was deserted.

Others were keeping it local.

"Going for a bike ride along Mission Bay, had a coffee, walking the dog," said Zoe Sisson.

"We're here just to have our exercise basically, and enjoy almost spring," said Jeanette McKeague.

"We've been for a bike ride and we've stayed in our bubble and we might go to play cricket this afternoon," said Luke Marcroft.

A few flouted the rules, including those who took part in an anti-lockdown rally. That prompted this warning from Auckland's mayor.

"They are putting others at risk through their ignorance. Everybody's got the right to protest but we need to come together to protect the health of the wider community," said Phil Goff.

"Everyone's got to play their role and if you don't follow the rules you put others at risk. You put others at risk, we're under lockdown for much longer."

And no-one wants to be locked in for any longer than absolutely necessary.
