An original artwork by Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has sold for $18,050 on Trade Me.

The framed piece is called 'The Political Cycle' and resembles a tornado drawn in white pen on black paper. It is also signed by Ardern.

The auction was organised by Koru Care NZ, a charity which it says dedicates itself to make dreams come true for Kiwi kids that have faced or are facing life-threatening illnesses or disabilities.

Proceeds from the auction will be donated to Koru Care NZ.

"Jacinda Ardern has kindly donated a one-off sketch for Koru Care NZ to sell in this charity auction to help us continue the work that we do," the charity says on Trade Me.

"Although our overseas trips are currently on hold, we will be continuing making dreams come true by planning domestic holidays for these special kids."

The auction received 220 bids before closing on Sunday evening.
