Palmerston North factory on fire, one person injured - FENZ

Thick clouds of black smoke have been filmed billowing from a factory fire in Palmerston North.

Officers were called to the fire on Keith Street shortly before 12pm on Tuesday.

One person has been injured in the blaze, a St John spokesperson confirmed, and has been taken to Palmerston North Hospital with moderate injuries.

Footage supplied to Newshub shows clouds of dense smoke pouring from the building.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ) said six trucks are currently fighting to extinguish the flames.

Another video shared to Facebook from nearby Napier Street shows the moment the fire erupted in an apparent explosion.

It is currently unclear what caused the blaze.
