A youth who was reportedly in possession of a BB gun during an altercation between students at Kamo High School has been located by police, a spokesperson confirmed on Tuesday afternoon.
Officers were called to an incident at the Whangarei school at around 11:20am, with initial reports claiming a student had been "shown" a firearm.
It has since been confirmed that the altercation involved two students who were reportedly armed with knives, and another who was in possession of a BB gun.
A police spokesperson told Newshub the individual, who fled the scene in a vehicle, has since been located by police. A BB gun and a knife have been recovered.
Three students have been spoken to and are being cooperative with police, said the spokesperson. They will be referred to Youth Aid in relation to the incident.
Officers will continue to work closely with the school to see what additional support can be provided moving forward.
