Three New Zealand citizens are reportedly dead in a landslide caused by flooding in South Korea.

Local media reports six people died on Monday morning when the landslide hit accommodation in Gapyeong, Gyeonggi Province.

TVNZ reports a close friend of the three New Zealanders said the cafe section of the building was "destroyed".

"They were inside that building at the time," the person said.

New Zealand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade says the New Zealand Embassy in Seoul is responding to the reported deaths of three people.

The spokesperson would not comment further for privacy reasons.
