Coronavirus: One new case of COVID-19 in New Zealand's managed isolation

One new case of COVID-19 has been detected in New Zealand's managed isolation and quarantine facilities (MIQ), the Ministry of Health announced on Wednesday.

No new cases have been found in the community.

The new arrival tested positive at around day three of their mandatory 14-day stay in managed isolation, the ministry said. The returnee arrived from France via Singapore on Friday, September 25.

They have been transferred to the Auckland quarantine facility, the Jet Park Hotel.

Twelve previously reported cases are now considered to have recovered from the virus, bringing the total number of active cases to 44.

Of the active cases, 30 are new arrivals who had their infections detected in MIQ facilities, and 14 are due to community transmission.

Seventeen people are currently isolating in the quarantine facility from the community, including nine people who have tested positive for COVID-19 and their household contacts.

As of Wednesday, one person is hospitalised with the virus. The patient is in isolation on a general ward at Auckland's Middlemore Hospital.

Since August 11, the ministry's contact tracing team has identified 4073 close contacts of cases, of which 4073 have been contacted and are self-isolating, or have completed self-isolation. This number has dropped since Tuesday due to records being identified as duplicates in the system.

New Zealand has recorded 1480 confirmed cases of the virus in total.

On Tuesday, laboratories processed 4969 tests, bringing the total number of tests completed to date to 960,559.

"While the spread of COVID-19 is slowing, we can all look after ourselves and our communities by washing our hands, cleaning high-touch surfaces, and practising good cough and sneeze etiquette," the Ministry of Health reiterated in Wednesday's statement.

"If you are unwell, you should avoid contact with other people and seek advice from your healthcare provider or Healthline."

On Monday, Cabinet will review the country's current alert level settings. Auckland remains under level 2 restrictions, while the rest of New Zealanders are enjoying their 'new normal' at alert level 1.

Any changes made to the alert levels by Cabinet will not become effective until Wednesday, October 7.
