COVID-19: New Zealand records six new coronavirus cases

There are six new cases of coronavirus in New Zealand - four of which have been recorded in the community.

The remaining two cases were recent returnees staying in managed isolation and quarantine (MIQ) facilities, the Ministry of Health said.

Each of the four new cases in the community is linked to the Mt Roskill Evangelical Fellowship Church sub-cluster, which is part of the wider Auckland cluster that was first detected on August 11.

The ministry says Auckland Regional Public Health Service (ARPHS) is actively tracing and testing their contacts.

The two imported cases both arrived in New Zealand from the Philippines on September 3. One is a man in his 20s and the other a female in her late teens.

Four people remain in hospital due to COVID-19 infection. Of these, two people in Middlemore and North Shore hospitals are stable on a ward, while another two are in intensive care at North Shore and Waikato hospitals.

There has been one more recovery of a community case which, combined with Tuesday's six new cases, sees the number of active cases climb to 123 - 43 of which are in MIQ facilities, with a further 80 in the community.

The ministry's contact tracing team has identified 3274 close contacts of COVID-19 cases in the four weeks since new cases were recorded in the community. Of these, just 46 have yet to be contacted.

The total number of confirmed and probable cases of coronavirus now stands at 1782, according to Ministry of Health statistics.

On Monday, New Zealand's laboratories processed another 4525 tests for COVID-19, bringing the total number of tests completed to date to 823,154.

There are now 69 people linked to the Auckland cluster who remain in the quarantine, including 52 who have tested positive and their household contacts.
