Fire under control, road reopened after large blaze near Whangamata

State Highway 25 has reopened following a large bush fire on Wednesday morning.

A Fire and Emergency spokesperson told Newshub crews are still at the scene of the fire between Hikuai and Harry Watt Drive but the blaze is almost completely out.

Around a dozen Fire and Emergency crew are attending the blaze including two helicopters. A spokesperson told Newhsub the fire was around 600 square metres but that it "may have grown since the last measurement".

The fire is on both sides of the road. 

No injuries have been reported and the cause of the fire is unknown. 

Residents are urged to tune into their local radio station for updates on the fire.
