The family of a deceased Hamilton man say they're still coming to terms with his death as his alleged killer is charged with murder.

The body of Sao Young, last seen alive near Insoll Ave in March, was found at a rural property a month later.

On Sunday, police arrested and charged a 24-year-old with murder. He will appear in the Hamilton District Court on Monday.

In a statement, Young's family said he was a valued member of the Cambodian community who is "deeply missed".

"We would like to thank those that came forward with information that assisted with the investigation, the Hamilton Police and the team of investigators for all their hard work and dedication leading to the arrest of those involved who will now face justice," the statement said. "We ask for continued privacy as we are still coming to terms with the loss of our beloved Sao."

Police said the homicide investigation is ongoing, with a focus on identifying those present when Young died.

"I'd like to thank those who have contacted the team to date and encourage others to come forward to explain their involvement," Det Insp Graham Pitkethley said.

"Our investigation team is committed to establishing the facts, providing closure for Mr Young's family, and holding those responsible to account."

Those with information that may assist the investigation are encouraged to anonymously call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, or contact police on 105.
