A signed poster of microbiologist Dr Siouxsie Wiles is up for grabs on Trade Me to raise money for a good cause.

The A1 poster by Mike Weston and Otis Frizzell depicts Dr Wiles as the 'Queen of Science' on a stylised playing card - and bids have already surged past $200.

It's signed by Dr Wiles and both artists and will be on auction until 18 September.

The proceeds will go to a good cause.

All of the money made from the sale of the framed artwork will go towards Dr Wiles' Evolution in Action research which studies how microbes like COVID-19 evolve to become more infectious.

Dr Wiles posted on Twitter about the artwork, where commenters called it "spectacular" and praised her for her work.

Dr Wiles became a household name during the COVID-19 lockdown for her easy to understand explanations of the virus and its impact.

She is a microbiologist, and an associate professor at the University of Auckland as well as a media science commentator.

She was one of three finalists for the 2018 Kiwibank New Zealander of Year award and in 2019 was appointed a member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to microbiology and science communication.
