Video: Man 'lucky to be alive' after thugs punch him in the jaw twice on Auckland’s Queen St

Police in Auckland are looking for suspects who violently assaulted a man in the Auckland CBD during the early hours on Saturday, August 1.

The man was punched in the jaw twice on the corner of Queen Street and Vulcan Lane,  receiving two fractures.

He is still unable to chew solid food - a month on from the incident.

According to CCTV footage, the victim and his friends got into an argument with another group. The victim tried to calm the situation but one of the males punched him to the ground.

The victim managed to get back up, but a second male approached him from the side and punched him again - this time making him unconscious.

Constable Jared Peck told Police Ten 7 the victim received two fractures to his jaw.

"This happened over a month ago and to this day and he's still unable to chew solid food," he said.

The CCTV footage shows two suspects and around seven associates who Police would like help identifying.

"Not all of them are responsible, in fact, some of them were actively trying to break it up, but we're hoping to speak to anyone we can," said Constable Peck.

The first suspect is described as a male caucasian with a full beard. He appears to be in his mid 20s and was wearing a black baseball cap with a black jacket and brown pants.

The second suspect is described as a male Maori or Pacific Islander. He was wearing a black baseball cap, white jeans and a white t-shirt.

"Given the seriousness of the assault, the victim is actually lucky to be alive," said Constable Peck.

"So we're looking for any information we can to try and identify these guys and hold them accountable."
