COVID-19: Take a visual tour of a managed isolation facility in Auckland

Have you ever wondered what it's like inside one of the country's managed isolation facilities?

The New Zealand Defence Force has shared a two-minute tour of one of Auckland's 18 facilities, guided by Corporal Taylor.

The video gives viewers a behind-the-scenes glimpse into its security, headquarters, kitchen and swabbing set-up, while providing some additional information on the isolation experience.

Any new arrivals are required to stay in a managed isolation facility for 14 days and return two negative tests for COVID-19 before they are cleared to reenter the community. Returning citizens and permanent residents are transferred to a facility upon their arrival. If they are presenting symptoms of COVID-19 - including fatigue, fever, and a dry cough - they are taken to quarantine.

Any New Zealanders who leave the country and return at a later date, whether it be for business or personal travel, are required to pay for managed isolation or quarantine on their return. Overseas Kiwis who are returning to the country for a period of less than 90 days are also liable for the charges, which were introduced on August 11.

It is currently $3100 for the first or only person in a room. Any additional person will cost $950, and it's a further $475 for each additional child aged three to 17. For example, it would cost parents and a teenager $4525 to isolate.
