Ian Pullen death: Man charged with Kiwi firefighter's murder two years later

A man has been charged with murdering a Kiwi firefighter in Australia in a hit-and-run two years ago.

Ian Pullen was killed in New South Wales after being hit by a car on September 29, 2018.

Joshua Knight, 29, was arrested and charged with the murder of Pullen on Wednesday.

The 29-year-old was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death and failing to stop and assist after vehicle impact causing death.

He was remanded in custody and will appear at Newcastle Local Court on Wednesday.

The investigation into Pullen's death reignited when police reopened the case last month after a mysterious caller told investigators the vehicle returned to the scene to check on him.

Pullen's wife Vicki, described her husband a "humble hero," and the driver of the vehicle that hit him, "gutless".

The 43-year-old Kiwi pilot had been in Australia for one day to help the Hunter Region through its bushfire season in 2018.
