Two people are receiving medical treatment after a cherry picker rolled at a property in the rural Hastings suburb of Sherenden, trapping them underneath.

The pair survived the ordeal, and have now been removed from beneath the toppled vehicle, Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ) central shift manager Mike Wanoa says.

However they both require hospitalisation, with one suffering serious injuries in the accident on Flag Range Rd and another suffering moderate injuries.

St John told Newshub it could not comment on the nature of the injuries, as the incident occurred on private property.

Wanoa told Newshub the incident occurred just before 4pm on Monday afternoon.

FENZ sent a unit from Hastings Brigade alongside two rural parties close to the area, who arrived on the scene at about 4:25pm.

A crew had extricated the pair by 5:15pm, Wanoa says.
