Police are appealing for information about a potential "prowler" after reports a man unlawfully entered two properties in a Christchurch suburb on Thursday morning.

Detective Senior Sergeant Colin Baillie says Upper Riccarton residents who may have seen a "prowler" or "noted any unusual activity" on Thursday morning should get in touch.

"The request follows reports of a man unlawfully entering two residential properties in the suburb between 6am and 7am today. As a result, a man is now assisting us with our enquiries."

Baillie said enquiries are at an early stage but any suspicious activity should be reported.

"Support is being provided to those affected by these events this morning."

Anyone with information that can assist is asked to call Police on 105 and reference Operation Linen.
