A 22-year-old woman has been arrested following an incident at a central Auckland managed isolation facility on Tuesday.

The woman, who has been taken into custody, is facing two charges of failing to comply with requirements for isolation and a single charge of failing to remain in isolation for a required period.

Police say that one of the charges related to an incident on Tuesday, while the two other charges relate to separate incidents on October 8.

They told Newshub there was an absconding attempt at the Grand Millenium Hotel in Auckland on Tuesday, but that the individual had been intercepted before they were able to leave, and returned to their room.

An investigation into the incident is underway, with police carrying out enquiries.

The woman will appear in the Auckland District Court later on Wednesday.

The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment said last week a woman absconded from a facility between 1:07am and 3:09am on October 8 through a fire exit.

"Normally all fire exits that are not able to be monitored by CCTV or that are not alarmed are monitored by security guards stationed near them," said Air Commodore Darryn Webb, the official in charge of the managed isolation and quarantine facilities.

"Unfortunately, a local decision was taken which meant that those guards were elsewhere on that evening."
