Christchurch school in lockdown after person 'seriously injured' in assault

A Christchurch school is in lockdown after a person was assaulted at an address in the western suburb of Hornby on Friday afternoon.

Police were called to the incident, which reportedly left the victim with serious injuries, at about 12:25pm.

St Bernadette's School, which is close to the address and has a roll of 124 students, has since gone into lockdown as a precaution.

"A number of people are currently assisting police with their enquiries," a spokesperson told Newshub.

"Cordons are currently in place on Hei Hei Rd while police work to establish the circumstances of the incident."

Hei Hei Rd is now fully closed to traffic between Wycola Ave and Tirangi St. Motorists have been urged to bypass the area by using Wycola Ave, Manurere St and Aurora St.
