Coronavirus: Four new COVID-19 cases detected at New Zealand's border

Four new cases of COVID-19 have been detected in New Zealand's managed isolation and quarantine (MIQ) facilities, the Ministry of Health has revealed.

For the 12th straight day, there are no new cases as a result of community transmission.

Of the new cases, three arrived from the US. Two arrived on November 23 and returned positive results at about day five of their MIQ stay following a member of their bubble's positive test, while one other tested positive during routine day three testing.

The final case arrived from Ethiopia via Dubai and Kuala Lumpur on November 14. They tested positive on day 11 of their stay last Friday, but were on Monday included in New Zealand's totals "following a database reconciliation".

With the four new imported cases, the total number of active cases in New Zealand rises to 72 - three of which were detected in the community, and another 69 at the border.

Another 2939 coronavirus tests were processed by our laboratories on Sunday, taking the tally of completed tests to 1,275,525.

Pakistan cricket team update

Following seven members of the Pakistan cricket squad testing positive for coronavirus last week, the Ministry of Health will undertake testing to determine whether they're allowed to train.

The squad's day six tests will be conducted later on Monday.

"Following the results of these tests, the Canterbury DHB medical officer of health will conduct an assessment of whether the team members who have not returned positive tests can have an exemption from managed isolation to train," a spokesperson said.

"For this to occur, the medical officer of health must be satisfied that training is unlikely to transmit COVID-19."

Two of the six cases within the squad have subsequently been determined to be historical infections, so are not infectious.

One member of the team tested positive at day three testing. The remaining 46 members of the squad in managed isolation in Christchurch returned negative results at day three.
